Our Clinical Director, Dragos Dragomir, looks back at our clinical developments in 2022 and outlines the changes to our clinical plans for 2023.
Looking back on 2022
Is it December already? How quick the year seemed to have passed by! 2022 was a year of learning and growth for us at Gordon Moody.
We have continued our efforts to reach more and more people affected by harmful gambling and throughout the year we have almost doubled the number of treatment spaces.
Our new men residential service in Manchester opened, and the continued pilot of our women’s residential programme and additional Retreat & Counselling cohorts have allowed us to bring more people into treatment.
It is positive that more people suffering from gambling addiction have reached out for support but we know that as an organisation, and as part of the National Gambling Treatment Service (NGTS), there is still much more work to be done in raising awareness of this hidden addiction.
Collaboration
We have been able to fill the gaps in the provision of residential care for people with harmful gambling practices and co-occurring mental health and cross addiction needs through our collaboration with Adferiad Recovery. During the last 12 months, we have seen more than 100 people accessing treatment through this ground-breaking initiative.
The second half of the year saw our team focusing on developing the model of care underpinning the next three years of collaboration with GambleAware.
Our clinical plans for 2023
We want to remain agile and responsive to the needs of our services users, which is why, from April 2023, our men’s residential programme will be offering both a standard and an enhanced offer of treatment.
The standard model itself already offers extended staff coverage on site, whilst the enhanced model will provide a 24/7 service for service users that require more intensive support.
The collaboration will also include our 24/7 residential treatment for women as well as the continuation of our Retreat & Counselling programme.
