Last month, service users at our Beckenham treatment centre helped with setting up a local dog show, Paws in the Park.

Early start

Bright and early on a Sunday morning, the service users arrived at Cator Park to help construct gazebos for the Paws in the Park dog show. The show combined multiple dog categories, including best ears, best trick, the waggiest tail, and the best in show prize, along with community stands, food stalls, face painting, and much more.

Rewarded for their work

For their hard effort constructing the gazebos, the team were rewarded with free hot dogs from The Friends BBQ and the team voted them the best tasting hot dogs in South London!

Millie, event organiser and head of the Friends of Cator Park and Alexandra Recreation Ground group, said:

“The guys from Gordon Moody were brilliant. They were all so polite, kind and helpful.”

Helping to the end

At the end of the show, the team helped with the deconstruction of the gazebos and reflected on a day well spent. The service users relish assisting the local community and it helps them to focus on how they can give back to their own local communities when they return home from treatment.

Ongoing relationship

Previous service users from Beckenham have helped the Friends group with other work around the park and the relationship between Gordon Moody and the Friends organisation goes from strength to strength. We look forward to helping the Friends group out with future events and maintenance.
