Time To WhysUp

We are excited to share our collaboration with WhysUp. WhysUp specialise in raising awareness of underlining mental health and addiction through their team’s lived experiences, actively promoting and encouraging positive wellbeing in schools, colleges, businesses and charities.

Collaboration Over Competition

Here at Gordon Moody, we believe in collaboration, not competition and have been working with like-minded organisations to develop services to enhance our services and support offer for post-treatment and recovery. As Gordon Moody treats the most severely affected by gambling harm and our outcomes achieved in treatment at our Residentials and Retreat and Counselling programmes are second to none compared to UK National Gambling Treatment Service data we want to continue to improve our service delivery and treatment programme.

‘The strategic priority for Gordon Moody is to develop the right partnerships with experts to deliver the best service that we can. Working in collaboration with Whys Up is the first to ensure that we have the best lived experience support for those who are in post-treatment recovery. This collaboration is vital to our success and I’m so proud to be working alongside Mark and the team at Whys Up.’

– Matthew Hickey, CEO

Back In August, we started to coproduce with WhysUp a collaboration that will see lived experience delivering sessions as part of our treatment programme in addition to a robust package of Outreach Aftercare and our own Gordon Moody lived experience teams. Mark Murray cofounder of WhysUp completed Gordon Moody’s residential treatment programme for gambling addiction back in 2013 and together with his business partner Liam McBride have been in the perfect position to assist us in developing a package that they know from their own recovery experiences and those they support.

“Coproduction with lived experience around how we enhance our services and post-treatment support offer is essential in ensuring we are able to holistically support people and aid recovery long-term. We recognize we can’t do this alone, it’s all about collaboration and tackling gambling addiction together. What we have created with WhysUp will provide hope and inspiration in addition to peer support and mentoring to ensure our clients go on to thrive post-treatment. ”

– Sarah Forshaw Head of Service Development

Whys Up x Gordon Moody Programme

Three sessions will be delivered as part of our programmes covering Mark’s own story and recovery journey to provide hope and inspiration, understanding and raising awareness around cross addiction and the promotion of health and wellbeing. In partnership with Gordon Moody’s Outreach Recovery Team, Whysup will support 45 people every year providing 12 sessions per person delivering content from a coproduced mentoring programme tailored for the individual. Our aim is to ensure the best possible chance of long term recovery being sustained post-treatment and our clients going on to thrive not just survive.

After working together over the last few months we are excited to launch our collaboration on the 11th October as we know the difference it will make to the people we are here to support.

“We are delighted to be working in collaboration with Gordon Moody. We know first hand of the excellent help, support and treatment they provide. Therapeutic support will always be at the forefront of someone’s treatment plan but we together believe that lived experience has a part to play. That lived experience is at the heart of WhysUp. We believe that a joint approach gives people something more in treatment and extra support post-treatment. As a result, we believe this collaboration gives the person the best possible chance of recovery”

– Mark Murray, WhysUp Co Founder & Gordon Moody Ex Resident
